Keeping in line with my last post on this season's modern florals trend is Doha-born luxury label Toujouri's S/S'13 collection, "Reflections."
For S/S'13, Toujouri founder and designer, the Palestinian-born, Doha-based and London-educated Lama El Moatassem looked to nature for inspiration, enticed by the work of visual artist-cum-fine arts photographer Bea Kayani, resulting in a collection of cocktail dresses, ball gowns, column gowns, jumpsuits, jackets and trousers suits printed and embroidered with dreamy floral, leaf and tree motifs.
Just like Kayani, Lama has transformed what looks like ordinary nature into surreal pieces of art, using delicate beading, intricate embroidery and revolutionary printing techniques that transform natural motifs into digital-like art. Lama also used sheet sequins on dresses, jackets and trousers suits, for a high glamour, starry effect. A colour palette of silver, emerald green, ivory, blues and black makes for a cool, classy and fiercely feminine collection.
Toujouri is one of the first luxury labels to come out of Doha and it is by far one of the most successful. I had a pleasant shock when I saw all the different places around the world where Toujouri is now stocked!
