I Heart Sue Abayas

Sue is the go-to designer abaya and sheila label for the chicest members of Jeddah's society. But you don't have to be living in Jeddah to get your hands on a Sue abaya and sheila.

Sue is the label (and nickname) of Saudi abaya designer Suad Al Zamil, who launched her label in 2007 when she noticed that her daughter was changing the type of abaya she wore every two months. Suad realized that abaya trends were ever-changing and so designed an abaya for her daughter, who loved it and then her daughter's friends wanted her to design abayas for them too. And Suad's abaya designing career was launched!

Suad launched her label with the realization that abayas are ever-evolving fashion statements, which need an eye for detail, as well as an element of uniqueness and aesthetic appeal. And her abayas are just that - full of opulent, delicate and exquisite detail, unique and definitely aesthetically appealing!

"I care a lot about details and the high end finishing so I always use the best fabrics, like silk and crepe and a special type of stretch fabric. I also always try to make new designs different to what is on the market," Suad told me.

"I get inspired by the fabrics and their colours and I use hand-made flowers on my abayas which are unique."

Quite frankly, I love all her designs!

How to get yours

Sue started off as a home-based company but now customers can also order abayas and sheilas online through her Facebook page as well as visit her showroom in Khalidiah, Jeddah (behind Manna Center, 0541151595). Sue is also available from time to time at Alsawani department store in Jeddah.

For more information, or to make an order or private appointment you can call Suad on 00966541151595 or email her at

Sue is celebrating its 4th anniversary by offering 50% discount on all designs between Sunday December 4, 2011 4pm (KSA time) to Monday December 5, 2011 10pm (KSA time)!
